For this season we’ll see the same battle between Stoneman Douglas and Pine Crest for the district title but neither of them seem to be able to get past likely first round opponent STA (although STA will continue to see the rising AH-Plantation program get a little closer this year in the rear view mirror).Stoneman took the district title in OT over Pine Crest in a district that saw the addition of 3 new varsity programs in Coral Springs (which years ago was a solid program), Coral Springs Charter and Coral Glades).  Hopefully those three will find some traction over time or this district will have some issues down the line with its’ current nine team size.I don’t have to recap how difficult Stoneman’s path was last year.  Just winning the district really should suffice as a success.  As they look forward it will be time to see if the hard work of the past 5 years continues to produce consistency in results.  Pine Crest has long been one of the consistent programs in the state.  Calvary Christian is one to watch down the line as the number of players getting involved has taken a leap up the last few years and they will eventually work their way to the high school level.  Cardinal Gibbons was on the path to potentially consistent Top 25 ranking but seems to have leveled off some.  Rudy Williams has moved on to another coaching position in another state and Tres Johnson takes over there.North Broward Prep has an experienced new coach in Rich Carter but he’ll need a few years to make some inroads while Taravella has struggled to gain traction.
