Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
FloridaLacrosseNews.com recently came across Head Coach Jillian Lontz of the Delaware State Hornets at the Ditto Dude Girl’s Club Lacrosse Championships in Jupiter, Florida. Delaware State is a new Division I program which begins play during the Spring 2013 season. Coach Lontz took the time to tell us a little about herself, her program, and recruiting priorities, as well as gave us her advice to high school players seeking to pursue collegiate lacrosse opportunities.IFL: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your lacrosse background.  How did you come to be the head coach for Delaware State?I actually didn’t start playing lacrosse until the tenth grade. Growing up in Lancaster, PA , my public high school, JP McCaskey, did not (and still doesn’t)  offer lacrosse so we had to form a partnership with a neighboring private school, Lancaster Country Day School. After high school I played for Wesley College.   I stayed in DE after graduation, got married and made it my home. I began coaching at Caesar Rodney High School while officiating and helping out at Wesley College in addition to my fulltime job with the Delaware State Newspaper. I  always knew I wanted to coach so I did everything I had to, to try to accelerate the process. When I found out DSU was starting a program I went after it.Go On to Part 2
