Lake Highland Starts Season With a Win over Oviedo

Feb. 24th – Lake Highland (1-0; 0-0 District) opened their state title defense this evening with an impressive 19-9 victory over the host Oviedo Lions.  The Highlanders offense was dominating in the early going, racing to a 4-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game and before Oviedo crossed the mid field line.  Lake Highland controlled the face-off X all night and did not lose a draw in the first half.  Billy Roll scored 3 of his team high 5 goals in the first half and after back to back short handed goals by Austin Tamayo and Devon Lewis, LHP led 12-4 at the intermission.  The Highlanders cruised in the second half, most of which was played under a running clock.  Lake Highland received significant contributions from first time varsity players including Freshman goalie Sam Webster, Reid Thedford and Kyle Richbourg.  The Highlanders have a quick turnaround as they play host to the Bolles Bulldogs at 6:00p Saturday, February 25th at CNL stadium.Rylan Kortus netted four for the Lions, while senior goalie Alex Perez did his part between the pipes with 17 first half saves.Ovied (0-2) will take on Lake Brantley Wednesday.
